Did you know that National Drink Wine Day (celebrated on February 18th) is a real thing? We’re not fibbing!
I’ve never been a big drinker, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate the taste and sophistication of wine. From the food pairings to the way the grapes are fermented, I’ve become fascinated by wine itself. Plus, wine tastings always make for a great date night or girls’ weekend!
Not sure which type of wine is for you? We’ll fix that! Keep reading for descriptions on popular wines, so you can get a better idea of which kind to try next. We hope you find your favorite blend!
When I participated in my first wine tasting, I shied away from red wines. At that time, I knew I liked sweeter, white wines, so I didn’t want to give it a chance. I’m glad I grew out of that! Enjoy red wines with a nice dinner or dessert. Reds are made with darker grapes, so many red wines tend to be on the drier side.
Pair your glass of red wine with crackers and a slice of our OST PRÄST® semi-hard cheese to liven the experience!
Types of red wines: Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Syrah/Shiraz
White wines are my go-to! I always refer to white wines as the “socializing” wine because it pairs well with so many types of foods – perfect for a get together or night out with friends. From Chinese takeout to a slice of pizza, white wines pair well with a variety of comfort foods, including dessert. My favorite blend? Riesling – a sweet white wine.
Types of white wines: Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc
These wines are best served with – you guessed it – desserts! Typically, dessert wines should be sweeter than the sweet treat you’re enjoying. Also, depending on the wine, dessert wines are sweet enough to enjoy on their own.
Pair your dessert wine with a slice of TÅRTA MÖRK CHOKLAD almond cake or RAJ RABARBER rhubarb crumble tarte!
Types of dessert wines: Ice wine, Raisin wine
So, drink up! But do so responsibly.
