Design Series: Express Yourself with DIY

You don’t have to be a professional interior designer or artist to furnish your home in DIY style. Take something simple and turn it into something stunning. Customize unfinished furniture to give it a unique look with painted updates. DIY your way to affordable, custom pieces you’ve always dreamt about!

IVAR storage system

The IVAR storage furniture system is designed so you can create your own combination to suit you and your space. Build upwards and to the sides to create the combination of shelves, drawers and cabinets you want. Made of durable solid pine, you can paint or oil it the way you like, too!

RAST chests

Made of durable, solid pine wood, the RAST chest can also be oiled, waxed, lacquered or stained. If you’re feeling extra creative, try stencilling a pattern or adhere some decorative wallpaper. Adding hardware can give your piece a bit of sophistication.

TARVA

Made of untreated solid wood, our TARVA series gives you a variety of options for creating a personalized space. Lacquer, wax, stain or oil the wood to get just the look you want. Leave it natural if that’s more you – the durable pine will age beautifully.

Bedside tables

Making a bedside table more bedroom friendly can be as simple as adding a bit of felt and coat of paint. Start by removing the knobs or handles, and smooth the holes with some spackle. Paint your table and let it dry completely. When it’s done, cut a strip of felt to make your new handle, and fasten it with new screws (We spray painted ours for a vintage look). Lastly, measure the interior of the drawers and cut a piece of felt to line the bottom.

Give a chair a softer look with the help of some paint and yarn. First, choose your color palette. Paint the chair with a few coats in a well-ventilated space and let it dry. When it’s no longer wet, get going with your yarn! We chose cotton spaghetti, a thicker yarn with lots of give, and a more modern look. Wrap the sides and the back so that the string fits tightly. Knot the end and have a seat!
